Commissioning Project Engineer
FST Technical Services’ Commissioning (Cx) division is a national leader in commissioning, partnering with clients to deliver quality assurance across the design, construction, and post-acceptance phases of complex building projects. We ensure that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, BMS, and integrated controls systems are designed, installed, and tested to meet client requirements and design intent.
About the Role
The Commissioning Project Engineer executes commissioning activities across multiple project sites within the region, ensuring systems perform as intended from installation through functional testing.
This is a hands-on role combining fieldwork and technical analysis, with a strong emphasis on BMS/controls integration and system performance.
Key responsibilities:
Perform field validation, functional testing, and system troubleshooting
Support commissioning of BMS and building controls systems, including sequences of operation and integration
Review design documents, submittals, and construction progress
Lead and participate in commissioning meetings, reporting, and documentation
Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical and controls-related issues
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule and budget targets
This role requires regular regional travel between project sites and adaptability to fast-paced project environments.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, HVACR, Construction Management, OR equivalent hands-on experience from a relevant trade (e.g., HVAC, electrical, controls/BMS technician)
5+ years in construction, commissioning, MEP systems, BMS/controls, or skilled trade experience in similar systems
Practical experience with building automation systems (BAS/BMS), controls integration, and functional testing
Strong understanding of MEP systems and their interconnectivity
Ability to manage multiple projects across different sites
Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Willingness and ability to travel regionally
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with BMS platforms
Cx or industry certifications (EIT, CEM, ACP, etc.)
Trade qualifications or licenses in HVAC, electrical, or controls
OSHA 10 or similar safety certification
Familiarity with BIM
Salary range: $90,000 to $120,000
